Spring Skiing…

April 7, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It was a beautiful day Saturday on the slopes of Mt. Baldy in Sun Valley, ID. They snow was plentiful as was many fanny packs. The vast numbers of fanny packs stood out against the number of costumes people were wearing for a race going on. The majority of Fanny Packs were worn by telemarker’s. Not to be mistaken as telemarketers, though some of them could be in this profession.

For a telemarker to wear Fanny Pack on the slopes is a statement of a true Bad Ass! Though some might relate this statmenet to the mullet – business in the front but a party in the back. I would disagree! It is more close to the tuxedo t-shirt -  ”I want to be formal, but I’m here to party too.”  ~ Cal Naughton, Jr.

Ignorance is truly Bliss…

March 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I recently was in Vegas for a trade event with my company. The booth was staffed with company employees as well as people from a 3rd party outfit based in Ogden, UT.  On the first day of the event, lines were distinctly drawn between good and evil.  A group of us were talking about what our plans for the evening should be. It was four of us talking; a man from the UT company, myself, and two women that I work with. Three against one, he didn’t set up his odds very well. Talk of going dancing, bars, and restaurants were the basics.

Then the conversation took a turn for the worst. The gentleman we were talking to mentioned the bar scene. He brought up, which we interpreted as his ignorance and sheltered life, that we would need a membership to get into any of the bars in Vegas. The looks that myself and the two women gave him each resonated clearly. Not only do we not share the same beliefs, we partake in enough liberations to know that memberships are only needed in UT.  Thus when we looked back in his eyes…we could see him recoil as he was scared stiff like he had just seen the devil…

Me and My Fanny Pack

Inspirations always come from a dream. For my case, it was my mocking admiration for those who wear Fanny Packs. These people wear them with such pride, with no care in the world. If they were self conscious about something it would probably be their frayed shoe laces or hole in their nylons but not that they are utilizing one of the worlds most functional accessories.

This appreciation resulted in a dream to make a special day for people like myself to wear fanny packs with pride. On March 8,2008 International Fanny Pack Day was created by F-PAC (Fanny Pack Admirers Coalition.) The first annual celebration was held in Boise, ID at the Falcon Tavern. I sported an amazing black pack with rhinestones and pink duct tape spelling out ‘Save Britney’. (She is so misunderstood!)

I look forward to the centuries of celebration that will most definitely result from my glorious dream.
